After Boston

Monday was a sad day for runners and a sad day for America. I do know 3 three of the runners there on the day and I'm very thankful that all had completed the race and were well away from the finish area when the bombs exploded. I feel personally violated by the attack--it was on my turf, so to speak--and it makes me so sad that something so much about hard work and personal accomplishment was spoiled by hate.

In New Zealand the response is sympathy, of course, but also some frustration that Americans think they are (and should be) exempt from the violence that happens daily in many parts of the world. Violence that in some cases is perpetrated under orders from the US government, they point out.

I'm going to keep running and racing, and I'm going to try to do it with a smile, since clearly we need some more love spread around our planet.
