We've arrived in Otorohanga. We haven't quite figured out how to say this correctly. The way we say it, everyone thinks we're referring to a town called Tauranga, which is the largest city in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty region. Listening carefully around town this week, I think it sounds something like Ohtranga. I guess I'll try that and see what kind of looks I get. It's still so strange to not be understood!
Anyhoo, we are once again in transition. We are in temporary housing and the rumor is that we'll be moving sometime next week. We're trying to live out of our suitcases without making too much of a mess. Otorohanga is small (no stoplights). There is a small Countdown grocery store, but the big New World (my preference for groceries in NZ) is in a town called Te Awamutu about 25 minutes away. The clinic has been very busy, which makes it hard for a new doc to learn the routine, but our current house is literally around the corner. We scouted out the community pool (3 lanes). It has a small fitness center and two senior aquacize classes each week. Friends, it is going to take some serious work on my part to get back to Colorado-worthy fitness.
