Happy New Year from Hanmer Springs!

1 January 2018

We have been in Hanmer Springs, North Canterbury, since Saturday. This mountain town is less than an hour's drive from Waikari. I was anxious to get going, of course, not wanting to miss a moment of a perfect summer day. Our expectation was that we would stop at a supermarket and maybe a Briscoes (housewares store) along the way to pick up some household items we have been missing. But there was no such thing between Waikari and Hanmer.

Our plan for Saturday was some tramping, then relaxing. Success!

Our AirBNB batch. Really typical Kiwi batch, just like our place in Waikari.
But a lot nicer inside!

The top of this waterfall is 40+ feet high!

Our plan for Sunday was "mountain" biking. Ruben tells me it was as easy as off-road biking gets, but I still didn't like it most of the time. After lunch and a bit more biking it was off to the thermal pools for a New Year's Eve soak. I forgot the camera in the car. Good thing we are going back today!

After biking, we feast.
