Local Waimate

It has been a while since I have posted anything. Sorry about that. Work found me and I have lots of projects due. And we were without a camera, which somehow equated to not being required to post.

We went on a great outing to Mt Nimrod Scenic Reserve near Cave last Thursday. It was very challenging to climb to the top of Mt Nimrod (and back down). It has been extremely dry here, so we were surprised to find the track to be very wet. Much like the central mountains affect Golden, the Southern Alps affect the weather in Canterbury region. There was clearly rain near Timaru and Cave, but not in Waimate. We took pictures, but have not figured out how to get them to the blog yet. Watch this space.

After that adventure at Mt Nimrod, we went to Timaru for Turkish Kebabs (our first kebabs this trip!) and a trip to the Noel Leeming (like a Best Buy) for a new camera. Ruben was sold on a waterproof/shockproof camera. It's a bit bigger and heavier than the previous camera, but it should last at least as long. This camera thing has been the focus of my existence. I'll try to move on.

Saturday, November 9, was Strawberry Fare day in Waimate. It's a huge deal around here. The town of 3,000 swells to 10,000 for the day. It was HOT in the morning. R and I went to the pool then to the fare.
We went through our first punnet of strawberries pretty fast.

R at the brilliant Waimate pool. There were clouds rolling in,
which was a relief on this hot day.

Crowds at the Strawberry Fare. There was a sprinkling of rain from those big clouds.

Gayle found a baked potato for lunch.

There were also cherries for sale. Delicious!
Ruben had some with brekkies this morning.

Everyone told us to go to the waffle stand. It was a nice treat and the seller was from Hawaii.
Ruben had ice cream with raspberry sauce instead.

Ruben was excited to see curly fries. They are served on a stick.

Our friend and Oak House Clinic Practice Manager Vanessa Morgan (waving) performing
with her singing group.  I think they were singing Abba at this point!

Ruben's lunch was an American hot dog, which means it is
served on a bread roll instead of deep fried on a stick.

Church is not until 11 am, so Sunday morning is housework day.
Clearly we are in upside down world because R is doing the vacuuming.
I did everything else, so maybe it's not so upside down....
