Moeraki Boulders

The Moeraki Boulders are unusually large and spherical boulders lying along a stretch of Koekohe Beach on the wave-cut Otagocoast of New Zealand between Moeraki and Hampden. They occur scattered either as isolated or clusters of boulders within a stretch of beach where they have been protected in a scientific reserve.

That was from Wikipedia. The info sign near the beach explained their formation as a phenomenon in which limestone was laid down in a regular pattern around a pebble over an extended period of time. Kind of like a pearl.

To avoid pay entry, we parked at a public car park and did a short hike down the
beach to the boulders. A tour bus group that paid for access walked down a flight of steps.

We asked some nice girls to take our picture, and they obviously did, but zoomed in
would have been good. The girls did not want to get their feet wet!
